Granada is the 3rd largest Andalusia province in the production of Olive Oil, taking into consideration the richness of its agriculture, spread throughout the geography of the province, where different native varieties such as ‘Loaime’, ‘Lucio’, ‘Negrillo de Iznalloz’ or ‘Escarabajuelo’, amongst others, can be found mixed with the predominant and more known varieties to be found which are associated with specific regions.  So we find the category of ‘Lechín de Granada’ throughout the Alpujarra and the Valley of Lecrín, the category of ‘Hojiblanca’ dominates the area near Málaga, the border of Granada with Córdoba gives us the category ‘Picudo’, and that known as ‘Picual’ or ‘Marteña’, is to be found mainly in the municipalities bordering Jáen.

The celebration of exhibitions, fairs and other such events is a necessity in popularising y making known the Olive Oil culture in general, such as the olive oils from Granada, on a provincial level as well as national and international.

This year the Fair Enclosure of Santa Juliana in Armilla, Granada, celebrates the Seventh International Olive Oil and related products Fair, OLEOSUR ’06, between 13th and 16th of September.

The principal objectives of OLEOSUR are to establish connections between the different sectors implicated in this industry, production, commercialisation…. and to help carry the name of Granada’s Olive Oil throughout the world.

But OLEOSUR has also set itself other aims, to make Granada a central meeting point and in the buying and selling direct of Olive Oil, which are:

  • Make personal contact between buyers and sellers easier and to open new roads internationally, towards higher quantities of exportation.  For this reason various countries are invited to participate in the Fair, be they producers or consumers.

  • Help to facilitate the contact between the different sections of Civil Services that hold the competence of the different activities which affect the Olive and the Oil sectors of industry, making communication more favourable and consequently improving the performance of the Olive Oil mills and bottling factories.

  • Offer the general public the opportunity of knowing more about Olive Oil and its different uses by means of the different activities planned to take place during the Fair.

  • Invite foreign companies to visit, especially those from Europe, putting at their disposition the service of an interpreter in order to establish personal contact with the exhibiting production mills and  bottling factories
